The first span of the west bound lanes was completely displaced off of the concrete pile cap/concrete pile foundation (Photograph PC_1). Approximate annual tonnage is 250,000 tons. 1. 78” W FIRM Storm Surge: Zone A9 (El. 11) and V12 (El. 12) Actual Storm Surge: 13 feet (Preliminary Finding) Date of Survey: 06 October 2005 The structural damage observed at the Bayou Casotte Terminals appeared to be related to high winds and some water impact. There was evidence of wind damage to building metal sides and roof systems (Photographs Pascagoula_01 and Pascagoula_02). However, the damage was not wide spread. A majority of the overhead doors and personnel doors were damaged throughout the Terminal (Photographs Pascagoula_03 and Pascagoula_04).
The USCG Docks located in Gulfport, on the other hand, are completely through bolted (pile caps and stringers) and have heavy spikes securing the deck. This timber structure was in perfect condition and being used by the local USCG station. The Long Beach Marina was protected by a wave attenuator/breakwater constructed out of closely driven precast concrete “Raymond” piles (Photograph Marina_4). These piles are hollow and have pre-stressing tendons holding together concrete sections. Between the piles is a filler piece (Photograph Marina_5).
