During my early childhood, my siblings and I gathered water from a cold spring where my grandparents had also stored melons, fresh milk, and butter. We shared that spring with bobcats, mountain lions, wild pigs, and an occasional deer. With a watchful eye for snakes, we turned over rocks looking for crawdads in the icy water. The banks of the spring were covered with a profusion of watercress and fragrant mint. God surely created the spring with an abundance of love. It is protected on the east and west sides by steep hills dotted with oak, hickory, locust, and walnut trees.
